Delta County Republican Central Committee
Awards Scholarships to Delta County High School Students
This past year the Delta County Republican Central Committee approved awarding two $2,500 scholarships for attending college, junior college, trade or technical school. This was a competitive process that was available to all high school graduates in Delta County that were registered to vote and had a minimum Grade Point Average of 2.5.
The applicants were required to submit an essay of 1000 words or more on any of two amendments in the U.S. Bill of Rights and what those amendments meant to them. They were also required to attend a minimum of five of the monthly Delta County Republican Central Committee meetings. The purpose in designing the scholarship this way was to expose high school graduates to real grass root politics and encourage their future involvement in this important part of our constitutional republic form of government. For our democratic republic to function, all citizens need to be involved.
This is a fairly rigorous application. The applicants were required to submit an essay of 1000 words or more on any two amendments in the United States Bill of Rights and what those amendments meant to them. They were also required to attend a minimum of five of our Delta County Republican events such as our monthly meetings, the precinct caucuses, the county assembly or our Youth Outreach events. Our purpose in designing our scholarship this way is to expose our high school graduates to real grass root politics and encourage their future involvement in this important part of our constitutional republic form of government. For our democratic republic to function all citizens need to be involved.
We had a four-person Scholarship Committee review the applications. Seven applicants completed the process and they were truly an outstanding group. It was an incredible challenge to select our recipients! Because we had such an outstanding group of applicants, the Committee raised an additional $2,500 and we are proud to announce that we are awarding three $2,500 scholarships to Delta County High School graduates. We awarded scholarships to Isamera Lindberg of North Fork High School, Christopher Hathaway and Hayden Rupp of Cedaredge High School.
Isa wrote her essay on the 1st and the 4th Amendments in the Bill of Rights. She attended three monthly meetings, and participated in three Right Roots Youth Events. Christopher wrote his essay on the 4th and 8th Amendments in the Bill of Rights. He attended three of our monthly meetings, and participated in caucus training and participated in his precinct caucus. Hayden wrote his essay on the 1st and 2nd Amendments and participated in 8 events, including 4 monthly meetings, caucus training and participated in his precinct caucus and two Youth Outreach events. We believe these outstanding young people received a good introduction to the American political process.
The Delta County Republicans thank Isa, Christopher, Hayden and the other applicants for participating in our scholarship program. We are proud of all 7 applicants, and we wish them all future success.
